There was a time when I sat across from a friend—her eyes shining with tears—as she described feeling small and drained in a relationship that seemed to ask more than it ever gave. If you’ve ever felt trapped like that, doubted your worth, or lost yourself trying to please everyone else, know that you’re not alone. I’ve been there, too.
Born a people-pleaser and shaped by stories of abandonment and longing, I spent decades adapting to fit in, always striving but never truly believing I was enough. I chased new beginnings across continents, wore every mask in the book: the devoted spouse, the corporate go-getter, the life-of-the-party friend. On the surface, I had it “all together”—but inside, I was still searching for myself.
Meet Rose
It took heartbreak and a series of not-so-glamorous wake-up calls for me to realize I’d lost touch with the one person I’d always have—*me*. In the quiet aftermath, I decided to pause the chase for external validation and start making friends with myself. I stumbled, I laughed, I ugly cried, and I tried everything: breathwork, yoga, sound baths, even powerlifting. Some days I felt strong, other days I just felt... “meh.” Through it all, I learned to celebrate each small step and welcome setbacks as lessons.
Daily journaling brought me home to my thoughts. Music, nature walks, and honest reflection became my medicine. I began writing again—poems, gratitude lists, messy affirmations plastered on my mirror. I found real joy in the everyday: making new friends, failing at handstands, sipping decent coffee, and simply showing up for myself.
